On Monday, May 15, 2023, a court in Munich, Germany, issued an indictment against the nurse.
According to a spokesman for the Munich district court in southern Germany, the nurse, only known as Mario G., was also found guilty on six charges of attempted murder.
In the course of his trial, Mario G. admitted to administering medication combinations to patients while working in the recovery area of a Munich hospital.
In November 2020, three attempts were made to kill the German author and philosopher Hans Magnus Enzensberger, but he lived.
Enzensberger passed away at the age of 93 from natural causes two years later.
Mario G.’s actions caused the deaths of two patients who were 80 and 89 years old.
Prosecutors claim that Mario G. administered the medications because he preferred privacy during his shift, when he was frequently inebriated.
The incident brought to mind the notorious German nurse Niels Hoegel, who was convicted of killing 85 people while working as a nurse in 2019 and received a life sentence.
Between 2000 and 2005, Hoegel—who is thought to be Germany’s most prolific serial killer—injected patients with fatal doses of medication until he was eventually apprehended.
