Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) reportedly suspends Jerry Williams over drug abuse
Jerry Williams, a Nollywood actor, has been placed on indefinite probation due to his drug use, according to the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
On Thursday, Actors’ Guild president Emeka Rollas issued a statement announcing his suspension.
The association, according to the statement, had been keeping an eye on the issue since December until it became out of control.
The Guild agreed to let Jerry Williams undergo minimal treatments, which they claimed he had been defaulting on, even though the president believes he should have been suspended earlier.
According to the President, the actor now poses a risk not only to himself but also to any further actors who might be working on the same set as him.
The board then made the decision to suspend him indefinitely pending a doctor’s visit to determine his health.
The statement read in part; “the Guild has been monitoring his involvement in illicit substances since December last year until it got out of hand, and as it is now, he cannot be allowed to associate with other performers on set due to danger.
He ought to have been suspended before now. But we decided to allow him go through minor treatments, which he has been defaulting overtimes. But as it stands now, Jerry is a risk not only to himself but also, to other actors who might be acting alongside him on set.
We, therefore have decided to suspend him indefinitely until he gets a clean bill of health from a medical practitioner or a professional that handles drug abuse”.
