This was confirmed to Punch by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
Remember that on Thursday, July 14, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offenses Court sentenced Baba Ijesha to 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting Princess, a comedienne’s foster daughter.
Six counts of child defilement, including sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by penetration, were brought against Baba Ijesha at his arraignment by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Baba Ijesha entered a not guilty plea to all counts despite the prosecution’s claims that the crimes violated sections 135, 137, 261, 202, 262, and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which mandates life imprisonment for offenders. In court, a Closed-Circuit Television film of his interactions with the victim—who was allegedly a minor—was played.
While finding the defendant guilty of four of the six counts against him, Justice Taiwo said that the prosecution had not established the defendant’s guilt of the remaining two charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
Baba Ijesha was found guilty of counts 2, 3, 4, and 5. For counts 2, he received a three-year sentence; for counts 3, he received a five-year sentence; for counts 4, he received a five-year sentence.
