The decision to sell Chelsea Football Club is said to have met another stumbling block in recent days.
On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, The Athletic announced on its official website that Roman Abramovich may seek the £1.65 billion that Chelsea FC owes him. The Russian billionaire had first requested that the funds be forfeited, but his position appears to have changed.
Todd Boehly’s team, as well as representatives from the other shortlisted bids led by Sir Martin Broughton and Steve Pagliuca, were given the impression that Abramovich now wants the £1.6 billion debt owed to Camberley International Investments by Chelsea’s parent company Fordstam Ltd repaid in full as part of the sale.
According to reports, the UK government will not authorize any funds from the sale of Chelsea that will flow into the account or anything related to Abramovich. Abramovich had previously stated that he wants to sell Chelsea before the UK government imposes fines on him.
Chelsea will be hoping that the club’s purchase is completed as soon as feasible.
