“It lacks substance and real-life experiences” ~ Burna Boy speaks as he reveals more on Afrobeat music”
Award-winning Afrobeats musician Burna Boy’s remark on Afrobeats in Nigeria has sparked a range of responses.
In a recent interview, the artist declared that 90% of Afrobeat songs lack substance and real-world experience.
He claims that many musicians lack real-world experience, which is why their songs lack depth.
He argued that many of the songs are meaningless and primarily focus on having a good time or living the good life, which is typically not the case in real life.
“Not even experience, because half of them like 90% of them have no real-life experience that they can understand. That’s why you hear most Nigerian music, African Music or Afrobeats as you people call it, is mostly about nothing, absolutely nothing. There is no substance to it, like nobody is talking about anything, it’s just a great time. But at the end of the day, life isn’t an amazing time”.
