JUST IN: Tension as gunmen abduct primary school pupils in Nasarawa
Numerous schoolchildren in the region have been kidnapped when armed men believed to be kidnappers invaded LGEA Primary School, Alwaza in the Alwaza hamlet, Doma LGA of Nasarawa State.
Unknown numbers of primary school students were kidnapped, and on Friday, January 20, 2023, the kidnappers reportedly besieged the school as the kids arrived for class.
At the time this report was filled out, neither the students’ nor their kidnappers’ whereabouts were known.
When reached, Nasarawa state command Police Public Relations Officer DSP Rahman Nansel verified the occurrence.
A united team of police, military, and vigilantes has reportedly been mobilized, and they are currently on the lookout for the kidnappers, who are thought to be riding motorcycles.
In a separate development, bandits are alleged to have kidnapped four students in Zamfara while they were traveling back from a friend’s wedding on the Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji highways.
The victims, who were purportedly College of Health Technology, Tsafe students, had reportedly attended the wedding with three of their abducted siblings.
According to reports, the tragedy happened on January 15, 2023, on a Sunday.
According to Mohammed Shehu, a spokesman for the Zamfara police, some people were kidnapped on Sunday along Birnin Magaji Road and Kaura Namoda Road.
Shehu claimed that because no report had been received from the victims’ families or the school administration, he was unable to establish whether any of the commuters were pupils.
“I know we had an incident on Sunday where bandits blocked the road and kidnapped some commuters but on the issue of whether there are students or not, we don’t have that report because none of the family members or the school authority have reported the incident to the police indicating that their students or siblings were abducted,” he told TheCable.
“All we know is that there was an incident of abduction along that road and the victims are unknown but we have a report of abduction along Birnin Magaji and Kaura Namoda on Sunday.
“Maybe the family members are communicating with the bandits there but as far as the police are concerned, none of the family members have reported to the police. Whether there are students or not, we do not know.
“This is the true version of the story. There was an abduction, we received that report and the commissioner of police mobilised a tactical team of search and rescue operation to ensure that the victims are rescued hale and hearty.
“If we had received information from the family members or school authority, that is then we will say yes, students were abducted but we are not saying no student was abducted, we don’t know whether there are students among them because no report from the parent ot school authority was received.”
