Kanayo O Kanayo was born on March 1, 1962 in Nru Umueze Oboama, Mbaise Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria, under the name Anayo Modestus Onyekwere. His parents, Mr. Donatus and Mrs. Isabel Onyekwere, gave him the name.

Kanayo O. Kanayo received his primary education at Saint Joseph Primary School in Mbaise. He subsequently completed his secondary school at the Boys Secondary School in Mbaise, Imo State, before transferring to the University of Lagos, where he received a bachelor’s degree in public communication and a master’s degree in political science. After graduating from college, Kanayo O Kanayo made his acting debut as a guest star in a drama series produced by NTA Enugu.
He began his Nollywood career in 1982 with the intention of making other people happy. Later, he portrayed “Chief Omego” in the motion picture “Living in Bondage.” He did this because he genuinely wanted to spread happiness.
