On Monday, members of Nigeria’s LGBTQ community held their first-ever demonstration in Abuja, the country’s capital.
The protesters urged that their lives be recognized and that they be given the same rights as every other Nigerian, regardless of their sexual orientation.
Members were seen carrying placards and wearing shirts that said, “Queer rights are human rights,” and “Trans life counts.”
This comes only weeks after the House of Representatives sought to modify the same-sex legislation, putting crossdressers in prison across the country.
