Omo Banke, a well-known Yoruba actor, got Nigerians talking when he discussed his way of life and work. The actor who frequently portrays thugs in movies said that viewers are typically astonished to learn that he is such a calm person in real life. He also shared his experiences in the film industry and gave advice to others who wanted to be performers.
Soji Taiwo, a renowned Nollywood actor popularly known as Omo Banke, shocked his thronging fans by agreeing to an interview with BBC Yoruba. Omo Banke became well-known for using coarse language and acting like a gangster in movies. He made a point of stating during the conversation how different he is in reality.
He emphasized that the only time he consumes alcohol is when he attends an event and is feeling shy, noting that he does not smoke or drink in his daily life.
When I go out, and I’m feeling shy I take a small sip of alcohol that will not have an effect on me to mishave or get drunk.”
The path to Soji Taiwo’s big break The actor also mentioned that his late father, Yomi Taiwo, was a Juju musician, therefore he came from a family in the entertainment industry. He stated that before being well-known for his slang and thuggery and choosing to continue with it, he had played a variety of characters, including lover boy and calm guy.
Before God revealed himself to Soji, he used to only be given one or two scenes to act in but never a starring role.
He delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Alhaji Yekeen Ajileye, may he rest in peace:
Ajileye gave me a big break with Eran Iya Oshogbo in the movie I killed Iya Gbonko’s cat because she was a witch and I gave her voice that was why I got my Omo Banke name.”
The actor went on to say that even though he has been performing for 25 years, it has not been an easy trip for him and that newcomers to the film industry are now having a good time.
