A five-story building under construction in Ngbabor, Abakaliki, near Ebonyi State University’s Presco campus, has fallen.
On Tuesday, June 7 at around 2 p.m., construction workers reportedly hurried out of the building seconds before it fell.
According to a witness, workers at the construction site rushed out of the building as soon as it began to tremble before it fell.
During a news conference on Wednesday, June 8, Chris Anyanwu, the State Police Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident, claiming “no casualty was recorded.”
Meanwhile, government experts have inspected the fallen structure in order to discover the cause of the catastrophe. A team of police officers and Ebubeagu agents were also there.
Residents in the region have been advised not to approach the unfinished work any closer for their own safety.
This comes just months after a three-story building fell in Ebute Meta, Lagos.
The Ebute Metta building on Ibadan Street collapsed around 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, trapping many tenants. According to reports, the structure was deteriorated and troubled before succumbing.
The structure had been sealed for demolition due to its deteriorating status, according to Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA. However, the tenants refused to move.
