Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), cannot become president of Nigeria because he lacks the structure to do so, according to Prince Ned Nwoko, a former member of the House of Representatives and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In an interview with BBC Igbo, Nwoko, the husband of Nollywood actress Regina Daniel, made this claim and said that as Minister of the Economy, Obi will transform Nigeria.
He claims that while Peter Obi is a wonderful man and has the support of young Nigerians, the Labour Party lacks the framework needed to manage the country.
Nwoko warned that numerous factors in Nigeria will work against the election of a president from the Labour Party by pointing out that the people of Nigeria is complex.
Peter Obi is a good man and has impressed me. When he came to London he came alone. He’s a capitalist and a big-time player in the business world and conservative in the way he handles things.
I’ll like him back in PDP, he’ll do well as Minister of Economy, he’ll help us turn around Nigeria’s economy.Labour Party does not have the structure to win but they have a support base. He’s a popular candidate but cannot become president because he does not have the structure. As a president, you must have the majority of Labour Party in the House of Representatives and Senate.
Many things in Nigeria will work against the emergence of a president under Labour party, It wouldn’t happen… ”He said”
Peter Obi shouldn’t have left the Peoples Democratic Party, said Ned Nwoko, and he should join it again.
After winning the PDP’s senatorial primary, the politician will run for the seat representing Delta North Senatorial District in the general election of 2023.
He had run for the PDP Senate nomination in 2019, however he was defeated by incumbent Peter Nwaoboshi in a hotly contested race.
