Police Reportedly Arrest College cleaner for stealing laptop
A cleaner at the Yaba College of Technology named Kemi Salawu has been detained on suspicion of stealing her boss’s HP laptop.
She was charged with stealing on one count by the Lagos State Police Command on May 22 and appeared before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court.
Femi Fadaru, her supervisor, is claimed to have reported the N633,700 laptop missing after she cleaned his office and left.
The complainant gave the defendant the key to his office and ordered her to clean it and return the key, but after doing so, the prosecutor, Chekwube Okey, who was representing Haruna Magaji, said that she took the laptop.
Okey said that the defendant broke the law on April 26, 2023, at the YABATECH location.
The charge sheet read in part; “That you, Kemi Salawu, on April 26, 2023, around 8am at YABATECH premises in the Lagos Magisterial District did steal one HP laptop valued at N633, 700, property of one Femi Faduru, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280(1) and punishable under Section 287 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”
But the accused entered a not guilty plea.
The defendant was released on bail in the amount of N500,000 by Magistrate O.Y. Adefope.
He put the case back to June 14, 2023.
