Skales Biography

Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, a gifted Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter who was born on 1 April 1991, goes by the stage name Skales.

 

Around 2000, he began creating rap music in Kaduna, Nigeria. In 2007 and 2008, he traveled to Jos to perform there with Jesse Jagz and Jeremiah Gyang.

In 2008, he took part in the Zain Tru Search competition and won the North Central section. His debut song, “Must Shine,” was played on the Rhythm FM stations in Lagos, Jos, and Abuja and received multiple reels. He later moved to Lagos, where he inked a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E.

Skales has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including Akon, eLDee, Tekno, Harmonize, Jeremiah Gyang, Banky W, and Knighthouse. Some of his well-known songs include Shake Body, Mukulu, Keresimesi, Komole, My Baby, Take Care of Me, and Denge Pose.

He left E.M.E in May 2014 and started the independent record label OHK Music. His first studio album, Man of the Year, was released in 2015.

 

Skales Early Life and Education

On April 1, 1991, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng was born in Kaduna State. In his professional name, SKALES stands for Seek Knowledge Acquire Large Entrepreneurial Skills. His mother raised him by herself in Kaduna state despite the fact that he is from Edo state. After beginning his studies at the University of Jos, Young Skales moved on to Lead City University in Ibadan. He graduated from Lead City with a degree in office management and technology.

He was inspired to create his 2009 album “Heading for a Grammy” by Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks.” His own experiences had an impact on the course of the song, which is an ode to self-empowerment.

Skales signed a record deal with E.M.E after meeting Banky W in 2009. “Mukulu” and “Keresimesi,” two of his hits, were released simultaneously. Both tracks were written by Sarz and distributed via the collective. The music video for the following song was produced by Clarence Peters and uploaded on YouTube on November 28, 2011.

Skales appeared on Empire Mates State of Mind, E.M.E.’s debut album, as one of the featured artists (2012). He collaborated with Banky W, Wizkid, Shaydee, Niyola, and DJ Xclusive on five of the album’s seven singles. He shared the stage with some of the artists listed above during the EME US Tour, which ran from July 4 to September 2, 2012.

E.M.E performers performed in a variety of places, including Houston, Dallas, Toronto, Vancouver, New York City, Providence, Calgary, Atlanta, Washington, DC, and Chicago. Skales accompanied Wizkid on his 2012 tour of London. On October 17, 2013, he appeared on stage during Felabration 2013, a biennial event honoring Fela Kuti.

In February 2014, the Vanguard newspaper reported that Skales left E.M.E after his four-year recording contract expired. Because they believed they weren’t getting paid for their investment in him, E.M.E. executives refused to extend his contract.

In May 2014, Skales established his own record label, OHK Music. The label, which also has connections to other Nigerian performers, is where producer Drey Beatz dwells. On May 6, 2014, he made “Shake Body” the lead single from his first studio album, Man of the Year. Jay Pizzle served as the producer. The song’s music video was uploaded to YouTube on July 22, 2014.

To support the single, Skales announced the Shake Body video competition. Rumor has it that Skales signed a record deal with Timaya’s Dem Mama Records after leaving E.M.E. In February 2014, Skales denied the reports and insisted that he had not joined Dem Mama Records.

Skales Personal Life

Skales suffered injuries in an automobile accident on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in December 2011. He was in a car that overturned after colliding with a ditch. One person died and three people were hurt in the accident.

According to rumors, Skales left E.M.E. and inked a record deal with Timaya’s Dem Mama Records. Skales rejected the reports and said he had not signed with Dem Mama Records in February 2014.

He joined a number of other well-known figures in attacking Desmond Elliot for supporting social media regulation back in October 2020, including Super Eagles athlete John Ogu and Davido.

Skales allegedly has a committed relationship going on. He announced on Instagram that he had proposed to his girlfriend Hassanity Precious on March 14, 2021.
